A World of Keflings

I had the pleasure of being the lead artist on this game until I went on maternity leave. It was a joy to work on. It would fill my thoughts during the day and sometimes keep me awake at night mulling over ideas.

It was announced today that World of Keflings will be released on Dec. 22nd for XBox Live Arcade. To celebrate the news, here is some promo art I recently did for the game. Enjoy!

This is the little project I spoke of earlier (no, not the painting). Our sweet little daughter was born early in February. Labor went fantastically until it was nearly time to deliver when we had a that's-no-spacestation-that's-a-moon moment. She was coming bottom first! So eight hours of labor ended with a c-section. I'm finally starting to feel like myself again, so have some art!

Head Painting

I'm taking "painting the human head" to improve my knowledge of the face and color theory. I feel like I've improved alot already. The one at the top is the oldest and the bottom the newest. These are all oil on canvas board.

More gestures from this semester. Brush pen and prismacolor marker. Time spent: Between 2-10 min. (And the cigarette in the first one...not my fault...)

Okay, so this last one needs a little explanation. My husband pressured me into posting it because he thinks it "cool". It was really just an exercise in "creative" exaggeration. I think it's just....weird. 'Nuff said.

I absolutely loath doing self portraits, so I've been resisting posting this up until now, but I wanted to post something a little more technical.
This was for character design with the purpose of understanding the planes of the face.

Character Design-Emulation

This week's assignment was emulation. The task was to pick three artists and draw an original character in their style.This first one is in the style of Claire Wendling. What a challenge.

This one is in the style of Feng Zhu. I went a little too dynamic on the pose.

The third one is James Christensen, but I'm still working on that one. Too....much....detail!

Gestures! Finally!

I was finally able to get decent photos of a few gestures from this semester. All the gestures in this first image are Conté crayon. The rest are all brush pen (with a little 50% gray marker). I'm really enjoying this brush pen. These range anywhere from 2-5 minutes.

Another Viking

I took the viking from the last post and made him a little more non-stereotypical.
I'm hoping I can start posting concept art from work soon. I also need to find a good way to photograph gestures from gesture drawing.

Heroes

Our latest assignment from character design involved heroes and villains. Here is my stereotypical hero and non-stereotypical heroine. Villains to come in a later post.

I decided to put together some sketches from my summer sketchbook. I'm starting to get better at likeness. (Oh, and about the jellyfish...I've been bitter at them ever since I got stung in 'bama)

More Figure Drawings

The last batch of drawings from 350r. Awesome class. ^3 hrs - Out of class drawing for the final. I spent quite a bit of time on the face, so I didn't get all the way finished.

^3 hrs. - Another out of class drawing for the final. Natural light makes for very soft drawings.

Character Design

This is a small part of a big final for character design. It has some anatomical issues, but I have to call it good.

^1.5 hrs--I'm not as happy with this one. There are some good things happening, though.

^2 hrs.--Drapery practice. I would have liked another 2 hours on this one.

^2 hrs?--One of my favourites from the entire semester.
